The Mysterious Chocolate Cake
by Mr. Alf
The day was clouding over and it was starting to rain when it began get dark. The first drops fell on my face when I turned right and came into the dark, narrow street. My steps sounded in the darkness accentuating the sensation of loneliness. The little light of the bakery situated at the end of the street showed me the way like a lighthouse in the middle of the sea.
When I arrived at the bakery, I looked at the display counter. In the center was a chocolate cake. Suddenly, an old man came out of the door next to the bakery. “I wouldn't buy that cake if I were you,” said the old man.
I stared at him for several seconds and he shook his head slowly from right to left. I looked at the cake through the glass again. It was a chocolate cake decorated with little coloured pieces of sugar. It had a good aspect and everything seemed to be in order.
I looked again at the man who continued to stand in front of me. “What’s wrong with it?” I asked him. The man kept silent while he glanced at the cake, occasionally. I didn't understand anything and found the situation very strange.I started to move towards the door of the bakery and the old man stopped me by taking my arm. “Wait a moment, please. Don't do it,” he told me with an anxious voice. I shook my arm trying to get free and moved towards the door again while the old man ran into the bakery and raised his arm and shouted, “I want that chocolate cake”.
